Calathea is grown exclusively for its striking foliage, making it one of the most sought-after indoor plants. A huge added benefit is that Calatheas are non-poisonous and safe to keep around your pets!

The leaves and plants themselves come in many shapes and sizes, each one will normally have gorgeous patterned leaves. The markings can look almost artificial or painted on by an artist. If you're attentive you'll notice that the leaves change position slightly during the day in response to changes in temperature and humidity or moisture requirements.

If treated properly they will produce large leaves and grow into a fairly large houseplant. This plant is 10-12 inches wide and 10-12 inches tall.

Care Guide

Light

Place your Calathea indoors in bright but indirect sunlight. Too much direct sun can burn the leaf edges and lose the leaf markings.

Watering

Water once every 7-10 days only with purified drinking water. Allow excess water to drain into the watering plate and then empty it. Let the top 3 inches of soil to dry out before watering again. Keeping this plant too wet may cause yellowing and drooping of the leaves. This plant demands to be moist at all times, but not "wet" or sitting in water.

How to Care for the Calathea Plant:

  1. Bright Light: This plant loves a softly diffused room.

  2. Average Watering: Water using purified water only.

  3. Warm Temperature: Warm temperatures are preferred.

  4. Average Feeding: Feed twice a month in the summer, none during winter.

  • When the leaves get dusty, clean them with a damp cloth or wash the dirt off under a tepid shower.
  • Do not use leaf shine products on Calatheas.
