To maintain a healthy plant, it should be receiving indirect light. If the light levels are too bright the leaves will scorch. However if the room is too dark, you will be left with a leggy and sickly looking plant. Find the balance that works for your plant and stick with it.
They like a really good watering then to be left alone to dry out for a bit. This is one houseplant which probably wont mind a routine watering.
